Humayun's reign was marked by severe instability. After initial successes, he was defeated by Sher Shah Suri and forced into a long exile in Safavid Persia.
With Persian military assistance, he returned to India fifteen years later, restoring the Mughal dynasty and bringing a deep Persian cultural influence to the court.
Relationship to the Region
During his exile, Humayun passed through Sindh and Balochistan. His son, Akbar, was born in Umerkot, Sindh, firmly linking the dynasty to the territory of modern Pakistan.
