History Through the Ages
Founding & Talpur Period
Hyderabad was founded in 1768 by Ghulam Shah Kalhoro and later became the capital of the Talpur Mirs of Sindh, who ruled until British conquest.
British Period
The British defeated the Talpurs at the Battle of Miani in 1843 and annexed Sindh. Hyderabad became an important administrative and commercial centre under British rule.
Modern Hyderabad
Today Hyderabad is Sindh's second largest city, known as a major centre of Sindhi culture, music, and crafts. It is famous for its glass bangles, Sindhi ajrak (block-print cloth), and traditional embroidery.
